【2021／4／13】　「精神の＜北＞へ」開催準備

　１０個ぐらいあった懸案事項のうち、３個ぐらいを済ませて、ようやく水面上に浮いて息がつけるような気持ちになってきた... いや、まだ最重量級のものが私を下に引っ張ってはいるのだけれど。

　今年の「精神の〈北〉へ」プロジェクトの開催準備をしている。去年の１年間を超えて、今年もCovid-19の影響が続くとは、これが報道され始めたころには想像もしていなかった。

　ほんとうに、誰にとっても深いため息が出るようなことだけれど、世界中みんなが一緒に対応している歴史的な体験だ。記憶に刻んでおこう。

　開催の計画と、日本・スコットランド交流の途中経過を、NewsとBlogにアップしました。みていただけたら嬉しいです！

　今年の「精神の〈北〉へ」プロジェクトは、2013年のプロジェクト１回目に招いたスー・グリアソンさんとの連携企画として、日本と英国スコットランド両国での同時開催にむけて準備を進めています。

　コロナ禍のため直接会う交流はできませんが、両国のアーティストたちは、逆境にめげず、かえって想像力を膨らませながら交流対話を続けています。

　両国で開催する国際交流展は、合わせて５回。まずは６月、スーさんが暮らすパース市のThe Creative Exchangeでの開催からスタートします。

　日本では10月に福島県会津地方の、喜多方市の伝統的建造物群保存地区の４棟の蔵で開催、その後、レトロな木造校舎の文化発信拠点である西会津国際芸術村で開催します。

　今回の交流のために、スコットランドチームが Confluence of North サイトを立ち上げました。秋までの活動を発信していくでしょう。

Introducing Confluence of North, an artist-led exchange project between four artists in Scotland and four artists from Spirit of North in Japan.⁣

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing our artists and partnerships, the background to the project, and how it is developing. ⁣

We are currently working on a programme of events and exhibitions with partners including Perth Creative Exchange, An Lanntair in Stornoway and venues in Shetland, as well as Kitikata in Fukushima and Nishiaizu International Art Village in Japan. ⁣

Confluence of North addresses the idea that North is always conditional, a direction rather than a location, and that our ideas about it can be fundamental to how we see and relate to our own life and culture. ⁣
